The Griswold house from Christmas Vacation is actually a façade on the Warner Bros. backlot in Burbank, used in many other films and shows.

The famous 25,000 Christmas lights were mostly non-functional props, and all the snow was artificial—made from soap, foam, and potato flakes since filming took place in warm weather.

The tree barely fit inside the set, requiring a breakaway wall, and the lighting sequences were controlled by special rigged panels.  The house still stands today on the studio tour, looking far less chaotic without Clark’s decorations.
